Thomas LoBasso, DVM graduated from Xaverian High School in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, and with his heart already
set on becoming a veterinarian, went on to New York University to obtain his Bachelors of Arts degree in Biology.
He subsequently went on to the College of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University where he was
awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1992. 

Although Tom’s work keeps him busy, he has several out-of-work interests. His most recent endeavor has him
becoming an ” accidental snowboard daredevil ” during the colder months. In the warmer months, you’ll most
likely find Dr. LoBasso fishing our local waters, almost always practicing catch-and-release. Dr. LoBasso enjoys
spending time with his wife, Jeanne, their English Bulldog and their Domestic Short Hair cat.

John Lu, DVM received his veterinary medical degree in 1986 at Beijing Agricultural University in Beijing, China
and received his Master’s Degree in Bioengineering in 1989. At Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine,
he accomplished clinical training in every aspect of modern veterinary medicine. He also worked as a pathology
assistant at the prestigious Animal Medical Center in New York City, where he learned a great deal in linking
causes and symptoms as a whole body approach. 

Before moving to the United States, Dr. Lu taught genetics in Beijing University as an Assistant Professor. He
worked on a series of research projects in molecular biology and immunology which allowed him to have an in
depth understanding of disease management. Dr. Lu always strives to develop safe, effective therapies beyond
what textbooks teach by integrating acupuncture and Chinese herbs as part of his practice. His goal is to take
advantage of the best of healing in both western and eastern medicine.

Deirdre Chiaramonte, DVM received her degree from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine,
Massachusetts in 1997 and completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at The Animal
Medical Center from 1997-1998. She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal
Medicine in 2004 after completing a small animal internal medicine residency at The Animal Medical Center.
She was a staff Internist and the Director of the Tina Santi Flaherty Rehabilitation and Fitness Unit until 2012.

Dr. Chiaramonte is certified in canine rehabilitation through the Canine Rehabilitation Institute and acupuncture
through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society. Current interests are in the fields of canine
rehabilitation, obesity and geriatrics.  She is a member of the AKC Canine Health Foundation Grants Committee,
Delta Society Advisory Board, and president-elect of The New York City Veterinary Medical Association. She has
been invited to speak at CVC Baltimore, CVC Kansas City, CVC San Diego, ACVC Atlantic City, Veterinary
Professional Quest (Winter Park, CO), WVC Las Vegas and International Veterinary Seminars.

David Wohlstadter, DVM graduated from St. Louis University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology
and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He received his DVM from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary
Medicine in 2004. He then completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at The Animal
Medical Center in 2005.

Dr. Wohlstadter is currently part of BluePearl Veterinary Partners’ emergency service, which he joined in 2006.
He sees cases in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens. He is married to a veterinarian and enjoys spending time
with his large family, which includes many people, many dogs and many cats.

Danielle Mossa, DVM, received her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2000 from Cornell University.

Currently working as a per diem veterinarian, she has a special interest in shelter medicine. Dr. Mossa
has also dedicated time to volunteer her veterinary skills on Native American reservations and in Central
and South America.

Living in Brooklyn, and originally from Queens, Dr. Mossa still enjoys exploring all New York has to offer
from musuems to music to the peaceful outdoors. When not spending time here she loves to travel visiting
new cities and national parks.

Born in Japan but raised in Manhattan, Dr. Mari Morimoto completed both her undergraduate and veterinary degrees at Cornell University before returning to New York City. The owner of Vet On-the-Go, PLLC, she is a small animal relief veterinarian by day, freelance Japanese comic book translator by night, interpreter at anime conventions, comic cons, and Japanese cultural events throughout the year, and most recently, an international speaker on the topics of Japanese comic books and their translation. Dr. Morimoto has filled in at numerous general practices in Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn, including those associated with animal shelters, and is also USDA-accredited to assist those traveling internationally with their pets.

In what spare time she has, Dr. Morimoto enjoys volunteering with various veterinary and Cornell-related organizations, Japanese/Japanese-American and Asian-American community groups, traveling, trying new restaurants, and crafting (especially counted cross-stitch).

Stephanie Janeczko, DVM  completed her DVM in 2004, and a master’s in epidemiology and residency in shelter
medicine in 2009 all at Cornell University. She is board certified in shelter medicine practice through the
American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) and served as a member of the organizing committee
for the specialty. She is also a board certified in canine & feline practice through ABVP, is a certified animal
welfare administrator, and is a former board member and past president of the Association of Shelter
Veterinarians. Stephanie currently works for the ASPCA as the Senior Director of Shelter Medical Programs.
Her primary areas of focus are helping animal welfare organizations across the country improve their medical
programs and providing shelter medicine support for other ASPCA departments. Prior to joining the ASPCA,
Stephanie worked at Animal Care Centers of NYC serving both as the organization’s medical director and later
director of operations. She has a particular interest in infectious disease as well as in the welfare of cats.

Born in Newark, New Jersey, Anthony Miele graduated with a Bachelors in Science from Saint Peters College in 1972. Following his love for animals, he attended the University of Naples, Italy, graduating with a degree in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery in 1980. The first year of his veterinary career was spent working at Yonkers and Meadowlands Raceway, and he subsequently worked in small animal practices in the New York City area. In 1985, he opened his first animal hospital in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, forging the beginning of his career in entrepreneurial veterinary medicine. 

In his veterinary career, Dr. Miele has served as President of the Metropolitan NJVMA, received numerous accolades including the Metrop0litan New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association Veterinarian of the Year award, New York Veterinary Medical Society’s Presidential Citation, as well as the first Brody award given by the Center for Animal Care and Control. He has served on many executive boards including VPI (Veterinary Pet Insurance), the New Jersey Medical Association, New York City and State Veterinary Societies. Currently he serves on executive boards that include the NYSAVE foundation, ILICA (Italian Language Intercultural Alliance, and NFIAS (national Federation of Italian American Societies).

Continuing his passion of living and working on both sides of the ocean, Dr. Miele is a lecturer on Business Management at his Alma Mater, the University of Naples. As well as still seeing patients in Brooklyn and Staten Island, Dr. Miele also is partner in a consulting group in Brazil and makes frequent trips to lecturer and consult there.

Sally Slavinski, DVM earned her degree from Michigan State University in 1995.  She practiced small animal
medicine for several years before returning to school to obtain an MPH from University California Berkeley in
1999 and became a diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine.  Upon graduation,
Dr. Slavinski joined the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as an Epidemic Intelligence Service
(EIS) Officer.  In 2004, Dr. Slavinski joined the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene where
she currently serves as the Assistant Director of the Zoonotic, Influenza and Vector-Borne Disease Unit (ZIVDU)

John F. Sangiorgio, DVM graduated from the University of Milan, Italy in 1981 with a Doctor of Veterinary
Medicine (DVM) degree. He also received a BS degree from Villanova in 1975. Dr. Sangiorgio is the sole founder
of The Veterinary Emergency Center which he began in 1985. He was recently given the NYC Veterinary Award
for his dedication to the health and welfare of animals. He has a strong interest in emergency medicine and
surgery. He also was the host of the “Pet Line” radio talk show. Dr. Sangiorgio is an outspoken animal advocate
and has testified many times at the NYC Council and Borough Hall on the behalf of animals. 

Sally Slavinski, DVM earned her degree from Michigan State University in 1995.  She practiced small animal
medicine for several years before returning to school to obtain an MPH from University California Berkeley in

Allan Bregman, DVM completed his undergraduate studies at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York
and received a degree in Animal Science. Upon graduation, he worked for the New York State Diagnostic
Laboratory, and then attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Bregman’s clinical year was
spent at North Carolina State in Raleigh, North Carolina.  He received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in
2002. Currently Dr. Bregman is The Ethics Chairperson for the New York City Veterinary Medical Association
in Brooklyn, New York. He is a member of the Executive Board of the New York State Veterinary Medical Society
and represents New York City.

Dr. Bregman is the proud owner of two domestic short haired cats: Peanut Butter and Jelly.He is a Category II
USDA Accredited Veterinarian and is well versed in performing and documenting International Health
Certificates. He is licensed in New York.

Lisa Esposito, DVM received her Bachelor of Science from Wagner College on Staten Island in Biology with
a minor in chemistry. After completing Wagner in three years, Dr. Esposito spent one year at State University
at Farmingdale completing Animal Science classes. A natural affection for animals and enjoyment of science
lent to Dr. Esposito applying to veterinary school and she graduated from the University of Tennessee, College
of  Veterinary Medicine in 1990. 

While attending veterinary school, Dr. Esposito adopted her first bulldog, Matthew, and quickly became
charmed with the breed and she currently owns two bulldogs, Zsa Zsa and Terrance. She is part owner of
Richmond Valley Veterinary Practice who has a special interest in the bulldog breed.

Dr. Esposito’s strong love and respect for veterinary medicine lent her to join the VMA of NYC’s Executive
Board in 1996. She has held several positions including President in 2000 and 2011. She is also a founding
member of NYSAVE – Save Animals in Veterinary Emergencies, the philanthropic arm of the VMA of NYC
and on the Board of Directors of the American Parkinson Disease Association, a nationwide organization
that her grandfather founded in 1961. She is also a member of the Staten Island Bucks and the Greenbelt
Conservancy.

Dr. Esposito enjoys hiking in the Greenbelt of Staten Island, frequenting the Metropolitan Museum of Art,
“apparel acquisition,” and spending time with her son and family members.
