Born in Japan but raised in Manhattan, Dr. Mari Morimoto completed both her undergraduate and veterinary degrees at Cornell University before returning to New York City. The owner of Vet On-the-Go, PLLC, she is a small animal relief veterinarian by day, freelance Japanese comic book translator by night, interpreter at anime conventions, comic cons, and Japanese cultural events throughout the year, and most recently, an international speaker on the topics of Japanese comic books and their translation. Dr. Morimoto has filled in at numerous general practices in Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn, including those associated with animal shelters, and is also USDA-accredited to assist those traveling internationally with their pets. In what spare time she has, Dr. Morimoto enjoys volunteering with various veterinary and Cornell-related organizations, Japanese/Japanese-American and Asian-American community groups, traveling, trying new restaurants, and crafting (especially counted cross-stitch). |
Member at Large: | Anthony Miele, DVM
Born in Newark, New Jersey, Anthony Miele graduated with a Bachelors in Science from Saint Peters College in 1972. Following his love for animals, he attended the University of Naples, Italy, graduating with a degree in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery in 1980. The first year of his veterinary career was spent working at Yonkers and Meadowlands Raceway, and he subsequently worked in small animal practices in the New York City area. In 1985, he opened his first animal hospital in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, forging the beginning of his career in entrepreneurial veterinary medicine. In his veterinary career, Dr. Miele has served as President of the Metropolitan NJVMA, received numerous accolades including the Metrop0litan New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association Veterinarian of the Year award, New York Veterinary Medical Society’s Presidential Citation, as well as the first Brody award given by the Center for Animal Care and Control. He has served on many executive boards including VPI (Veterinary Pet Insurance), the New Jersey Medical Association, New York City and State Veterinary Societies. Currently he serves on executive boards that include the NYSAVE foundation, ILICA (Italian Language Intercultural Alliance, and NFIAS (national Federation of Italian American Societies). Continuing his passion of living and working on both sides of the ocean, Dr. Miele is a lecturer on Business Management at his Alma Mater, the University of Naples. As well as still seeing patients in Brooklyn and Staten Island, Dr. Miele also is partner in a consulting group in Brazil and makes frequent trips to lecturer and consult there. |
